OUR STORY

Having raised livestock since 1976, we have certainly seen the ebbs and flows a farming operation can bring. But it was through the struggle of 2020 that Rural Route One Meat Company was established. Because of several supply chain difficulties, our farm was unable to sell pork to our standard buyers. Our family and friends observed this struggle and wanted to help alleviate the load by purchasing pork direct from our farm rather than their usual outlets. The feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive as customers enjoyed not only the taste and quality of the product, but also the ability to buy and support local farmers. We could see an opportunity in the market and after seeking advice and support from many extended family members, we put to work the talents of our immediate family and have pursued this venture into the local meat market. It was through the adverse trials of 2020 Rural Route One Meat Company was created. The company name hearkens back to the roots of our family farm getting its start, on Rural Route One.

The Next Generation

Fortunately, after growing up and getting married, everyone still has the shared goal of working together. Ironically the girls married farmers and the son married a farm girl who all have particular skill sets that the Schmidgalls were missing. As a family we have the shared goal of providing a great product and restoring the farm to consumer relationship that was once enjoyed. Our children continue to carry a desire to raise a crop and nurture livestock.
